Trying to earn three stars in each stage will be a genuine challenge to most, but even for those less diehard about such things they’ll still be delighted by the excellent gameplay and funny storyline. I gravitated toward the online component of Puyo Puyo Tetris, but when I tired of facing real live opponents I was more than glad to tackle the computer in Adventure Mode. Don’t expect a BioShock-level narrative, of course, but rather something cute and not meant to be taken too seriously.
We were disappointed by the service when it launched and only recommended it as an annoying necessity for playing online games. Now it’s an annoying necessity that happens to come with over 120 classic games, Pac-Man 99, and Tetris 99, and costs much less than other console subscription services or retro game systems. For all the baffling decisions and disappointing limitations of Nintendo Switch Online, all of the features of the service function exactly as intended.

Tetris 99 is a Battle Royale version of the Tetris game and puts you against 98 other players worldwide for matches. Your task is to clear lines using the various puzzle pieces and doing combos in order to send garbage lines to other players so that you become the victor.
Online – Players can try their puzzle skills on a global scale by playing any of the multiplayer modes with up to four players online, in Puzzle League or Free Play modes. A cooperative roguelite game for one or two players via local or online multiplayer. You’re on a ship voyaging across the sea and need to defend it against aquatic menaces. There are plenty of monsters to fight, procedurally generated maps full of twists, plenty of Fools with their own special abilities, and plenty of trinkets and artifacts to collect and use.
And so, I spent my weekend doing little other than playing Tetris 99. In the new Team Battle Mode, players can pick one of 4 teams to compete to be the last squad standing. In addition to the new Battle Mode, the 2.1.0 updates offers password matchmaking in order to make finding and gathered your friends for matches easier. The goal is to pick up paint and then paint buildings and objects by jumping on them as you pick up more paint and grow larger. The controls have been improved since the Wii, and the art style is really nice for low vision folks because of the high contrast and colorful design. Decurse is a cutesy farming sim where you build a magical kingdom at the bottom of the ocean.
This is a game where, you kinda already know if you’ll like it by the title. Neither of the puzzle games included change at their core from game to game, at least not anymore. Do you want a fun puzzle game you can play online with your friends? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, and that’s ALL that matters to you, then I can easily recommend Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
